Welcome to Henwoodie!  Henwoodie is the name we gave to our Arts and Crafts style home here on the western edge of the Catskills Mountains in New York state.  Henwoodie means "Hennery" or "Henhouse".  And since the house looks like an oversized henhouse the name seemed to fit.
Life at Henwoodie is quiet and peaceful---most of the time.  We have eight dogs (six are rescue) and they can keep us all hopping.
My studio, Moel Eyris Studio at Henwoodie, is located on the second floor.  It's not unusual to see bald eagles soar right past the studio windows while I'm working.  However, since I mostly work late at night and into the wee hours of the morning it's more usual to hear the owls hooting nearby.
Every afternoon the pups and John and I hike to the river to swim, play ball, or go kayaking.  Another favorite hike takes us up the side of the mountain where we can scramble among our favorite rock outcrops.

Molly and Gabe are our champion water pups!  We live right on the beautiful Upper Delaware River and hike to the river every afternoon for the pups to go swimming.  Molly is also the fearless high diver off the rocky cliffs at the Big Eddy by the bridge!  Both pups love to play with the water as it comes out of the hose.
These photos show Molly and Gabe at their best in the water. Molly was a fearless high diving pup!  And that's Gabe on the left looking pleased with himself that HE got the rubber ball and not Molly.
This is Scout---our rescue pup from the streets ofSouth L.A.   It took us a little while but we eventually won him over.  He quickly became attached to me and throughout his life was always on my lap.
We head off to Cape Cod a few times a year---with the pups, of course!
Winter at Henwoodie is always a magical time of year.  Whether hauling or carrying firewood, firing up the hot tub, or romping in the snow with the pups, a snowy winter is welcome here!

Bridey and Maddy are sisters.  We rescued them from a dog hoarding situation in Michigan.
We are very involved with shelter dog rescue.  We rescued Sophie from the San Bernadino Animal Shelter in California.  She has been the quirkiest and best little cairn terrier.
John and Peedie when Peedie was a tiny puppy.
We adopted Sparky in June 2025.  He is a "chiweenie".  At this point in life we only adopt senior dogs that deserve to live out their last days being loved and being spoiled.
The Winter Solstice, Yule, and Christmas is a magical time at Henwoodie.  We always hope there will be snow!
